When we began our journey of starting a girl empowerment company, we wanted to know whether our personal experiences and beliefs held any truth in the minds of more scholarly folk, so we did our research and what we found was more surprising than we thought.
Too many companies support gender stereotypes and send negative messages to young girls. While more companies are becoming aware of this bias, there are still too few that create imaginative and creative clothing options for girls who want to succeed in a real career instead of marrying into royalty. When we began to research why this is the case, we were shocked to learn that only 3% of Fortune 500 CEOs are women and the lack of women's voices in our media and business leadership is evident in the products made for girls today.
Clever Belle is a company that wants girls to wear clothing that outwardly displays their interests and dreams. Our original designs are images girls want to wear and parents can appreciate. We have five themes that we design our artwork around and one rotating design:
Around age 8-12, girls begin to lose self-esteem and begin to withdraw from activities they enjoy. We believe that girls' self-esteem stays intact when they develop a love of learning, participate in hobbies or sports that encourage them to pursue their passions, appreciate nature, art and music, and give back to their communities. Our mission is to encourage young girls to pursue their dreams and see themselves as having the strength and ability to respond to the negative stereotypes that they experience.
