Meet Lucia! She's a 9 year old with a passion for making soap.

Interview with Lucia

When did you start your company Owl Avenue Soaps?

The last week of November, 2016

What is your age?

9 years old. I’ll be 10 in May!

Do you think age was an issue for you starting your own business?

Not at all. It doesn’t matter how old you are to start a business!

What gave you the idea to start your own soap making business?

My mom bought a bunch of home-made soaps while out shopping with my uncle. She talked about maybe learning to make soaps, herself but I had lots of great ideas about making soaps and wanted to make them myself! My mom thought my ideas were really good! She thought I could have my own business.

What do you enjoy most about having a business?

I enjoy being creative and I love doing art.  I believe that making soap is a form of art.

What is the hardest part of having a business?

Well, sometimes I’m up very late packing orders and making soap.

Is it hard to make soap and how do you come up with your ideas on the perfect scent?

For starters, making soap is not hard at all. It’s actually quite easy. My ideas just come naturally. My mom and I keep a notebook with all of our soap ideas.

What are your future dreams for your soap business and do you have other creative ideas in the works?

My future dream is for me and my mom to get a store where we sell soaps and bath bombs.  I have lots of creative ideas in the works and am excited to go to my second craft fair in March.

What would you say to other girls who might be thinking about trying to do something like what you've accomplished?

One thing I could tell them is keeping going and don’t stop no matter what your challenges are.

Who is someone you admire and why?

I admire my mom because she has lots of good ideas too and she helps me a lot on my soap adventures. I really can’t do it all on my own. I mean I can’t stay up that late making and packaging soap!
